I enjoy this series from Ana Medieta which consists of photos of various body parts and facial expressions pressed into a plate of glass. It is a take on somebody we all did as children (or playful adults). The photos are fun because of the unusual expressions. I have a very human moment when I look at these photos. It makes me think about the nature of skin and flesh. It makes me think about its consistency and the way that it moves. Some of the photos of the face resemble an expression that you make when you have been hit by something. Other photos of the nude female body. This is the expression of sexuality, feminism and violence that is present in all of Mendieta’s work.
